It's a standard we're actively pursuing, not a certification we currently hold, and we'll always be clear about the difference.
What Passive House Principles Actually Do
Strip away the label and it comes down to a few things done well: an airtight envelope, continuous insulation, as little thermal bridging as possible, high-performance windows, and balanced ventilation that brings in fresh air while recovering heat.
The result is lower energy bills, even temperatures room to room, a quieter house, and better air. You can apply the full standard or borrow the parts that fit the project and the budget.
Where We Stand With It

Is It Worth It on the North Shore?
Our climate is wet and mild rather than brutally cold, so the biggest wins here are comfort, moisture control, and durability as much as heating cost. That's also why scaling the principles to the project makes sense — you take the gains that matter most for your home without overbuilding for a climate we don't have.

Not currently — it's a certification we're actively pursuing. We apply the principles now, and we'll be straight about where we stand rather than claim a credential we don't hold.
Do I have to build a full Passive House?
No. The principles scale. Even applying some of them — a tighter envelope, better windows, proper ventilation — improves comfort and lowers energy use on an ordinary renovation or build.
Does it cost more?
The envelope costs more up front. It's paid back over time in lower energy bills and a more comfortable, durable home. We'll lay out the trade-offs so the call is yours.
